Lauds, or Morning Prayer

This is the hour of birth, of wakefulness, of sleepers rising from the dead, of the sun's annunciation to an ancient yet newborn world.

This is the hour when we come before You, Lord God, full of hope and trust in Your illimitable mercy.

This is the moment when we place all our hopes and worries, all our aspirations and equivocations, all our doubts and certainties, all our questionings and conjectures, all our disturbances and dreams, all our grumblings and our gratitude, all our woe and wonder, all our energy and hesitancy, all our zeal and our reluctance, all our wisdom and folly, all our humility and pride, into Your almighty hands: to be transfigured, to be re-made, to be renewed.

Make of us what You will make of us. Inspire us by Your Holy Spirit to act justly, to love mercy, to walk humbly, to see Your face in the faces of our sisters and our brothers.

Let us strive mightily, ever open to the promptings of Your gracious Spirit, to live in peace with everyone whom we encounter -- this day and always.

And may the Mother of Your Divine Son, may Our Lady, the most blessed Virgin Mary, Queen of Heaven and Earth, be our patroness and protectress as we stumble and struggle in this vale of joy and sorrow.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.  Amen.
