Progressive bellies are chubby.
Conservative bellies are lean.
Catholic bellies sit primly
Above legs that genuflect
Before a monstrance or a tabernacle.
Protestant bellies
Thunder the Scriptures
In the King James Version,
And often in a Southern accent.
The poet sips his fourth, maybe fifth, beer
And waxes poetic about his Chestertonian girth.

From September to June.

That would be a male teacher or a pregnant female teacher. =P
A woman would likely have her ponytail covered in chalkdust! (I speak from powdery experience . . .)
PS -- You see? With stuff like this here, how could I not comment?
And is it September to June where you are? In Massachusetts, it is. Other parts of the USA go to school from August to May.
This rather silly poem was my attempt at imitating the former American poet laureate Charles Simic. Not the noblest goal for a poet to have, but it beats writer's block, I guess.
